Events and Marketing Manager

Full time position

The Organization

The Pleasanton Downtown Association is a group of dedicated individuals, businesses and property owners who believe in developing a strong downtown district through planning and marketing, and by offering community events and activities in the downtown area. The group’s intent is to provide an enjoyable place to visit, shop, receive services and to dine.


The organization was created by the Pleasanton City Council in January 1984 and follows the California State Legislature enacted “Parking and Business Improvement Area Law” known as SB 142. The 600-member PDA functions as an assessment district with its operating capital generated through member participation, sponsorships, city revenue and revenue-producing events. The PDA is governed by a 13-member Board of Directors. We are committed to the economic and cultural vitality of the downtown and for creating new and innovative programs that enhance downtown as a regional destination for visitors.

The Role of the Events and Marketing Manager 

- Oversee the planning and execution of all PDA events including, but not limited to, Concerts in the Park, Crawls & Strolls, Scavenger Hunts, Small Business Saturday, Magical Holiday Evening and more.
- Work directly with and manage the organization’s large volunteer base.
- Work closely and professionally with all event vendors, sponsors, participants and attendees.
- Carefully and critically manage event expenses and revenue in line with the annual budget.
- Provide post-event analysis for each event.
- Work closely with Police & City Staff on event logistics/operations related to events
- Prepare an annual overall event analysis with a focus on profitability, relevance, participation and attendance and work closely with the Executive Director to grow reach and attendance.
- Be the staff liaison for the PDA Events & Marketing Committee and attend other meetings as needed.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to create all PDA event marketing materials including posters, postcards, event signage & sponsor signage.
- Execute the PDA’s Social Media Plan; work closely with the Executive Director to grow the PDA’s social media presence and influence.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to create and execute marketing and promotions for all of Downtown
- Provide excellent customer service to all PDA members, visitors and vendors.
- Be a positive and professional reflection of the organization.
- Assume additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Executive Director

Required Skills & Experience

- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of and experience executing Social Media
- 5 years of marketing experience
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Large scale event coordinating experience is preferred
- Outstanding customer service attitude
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for events
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly

Compensation & Benefits

This position is full-time. Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and applicable experience required. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 and does not include medical benefits. Salary dependent on experience.
